Shirlette Ammons

Shirlette Ammons is an award-winning poet and musician who's latest album entitled LANGUAGE BARRIER features  guest appearances from Meshell Ndegeocello, The Indigo Girls, Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso) and others and was co-released by Churchkey Records and SugarQube Records, a label she co-founded with her twin sister Shorlette.  SugarQube's latest release is a compilation mixtape entitled, "A Family Affair, released in collaboration with Next Level, USA. Next Level is a partnership between UNC's music department and the US Embassy that uses hip hop as a form of conflict resolution. The mixtape includes 10 tracks by emcees and producers from around the globe who have participated in Next Level’s artist exchange program. Shirlette is also a producer with Markay Media Productions, the production team behind Emmy and Peabody Award-winning PBS docuseries, A CHEF’S LIFE. Shirlette lives and works in Durham, North Carolina.
